- Description
- A highly sensitive and specific panel used to evaluate for the evidence of infection in cases suspected of having a vector-borne disease. A positive result indicates that the animal is infected with the organism but does not prove that the agent is the cause of the pet's clinical signs. A negative result can occur due to prior antibiotic/antiprotozoal treatment, very low numbers of circulating organisms, or organism sequestration in sites other than the blood. PCR is often best used in conjunction with serological testing.
