Melissa is a graduate of the Veterinary Medical Scientist Training Program (VMSTP, VMD/PhD program) at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn). She completed a PhD in Virology/Cell and Molecular Biology focusing on the antibody immune response against West Nile virus in horses. Following the VMD/PhD, she embarked in an Anatomic Pathology residency at UPenn. During her residency she was awarded the Pfizer/Ricardo Ochoa Minority Fellowship granted by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists/Society of Toxicologic Pathology Coalition for Veterinary Pathology Fellows. Upon successful completion of the residency and boards, she served as a faculty member in the Department of Pathobiology at the School of Veterinary Medicine at UPenn, where she served as chief of the small animal autopsy and immunohistochemistry services. Her clinical and research interests include oral pathology and neuropathology. She has led and collaborated in multiple diagnostic pathology studies, primarily in the area of oral pathology. Melissa joined ANTECH in 2016, and is the Chair of the Antech’s Oral Pathology Specialty Service. She is also a member of Antech’s Dermatopathology Specialty Service, the International Society of Veterinary Dermatology (ISVD), and Clinical Associate Professor at Western University of Health Sciences/College of Veterinary Medicine.
